General note

Press release from Lanny Sher at PRA for their client Hagmann, Impastato, Stephens & Kerns, December 8, 1980. Seeking fresh ideas for a company poster, Hagmann, Impastato, Stephens & Kerns, a leading TV commercial production company, has awarded prizes totaling $4,000 to four students in a poster design competition. The competition was held at Art Center College of Design of Pasadena, California. Supervised by illustration department chairman Philip Hays, the contest was assigned to four classes in illustration and graphic design and was open to all other students. The four principals of HISK - Stu Hagmann, David Impastato, John Stephens and Dick Kerns - served as the judges and were "delighted at the quality of the entries." according to Kerns. The $1,500 first prize was awarded to Greg Winters, a fourth semester illustration major. Illustrator Russ Houston received the $1,000 second prize and two third place awards of $750 each went to advertising designer David Nathanson and illustrator Hank Hernandez. Hagmann, Impastato, Stephens & Kerns also contributed a half scholarship of $825 to the college. [Similar article in Developments at Art Center, September 1980.]
