General note

Developments at Art Center, April /May 1986: Students in Stewart Reed's Transportation 3 class unveiled their redesign of Toyota's two-passenger MR2 at an April 9 presentation on campus. Reed, a designer with Calty, Toyota's design studio in Newport Beach, obtained the MR2 from Toyota's product planning group, which displayed the redesigned vehicle at the Toyota-sponsored Long Beach Grand Prix, held April 10-13. The car is a prototype only and is not intended for future production. Stehrenberger/Clenet Coach Builders, Santa Barbara, in conjunction with Cars and Concepts, Brighton, Michigan, and Richard Straman, Costa Mesa, assisted the students with fiberglass and sheet metal construction, assembly, painting, and graphics. Among the visitors at the presentation were Joseph Oates, Toyota product planning; Kurt VonZumwalt, Toyota motor sales, public relations, Torrance; and Katsushi Nosho and Toyotaka Ikeda, of Calty.
