Biographical history
ArtCenter taught film classes beginning in the late 1930s, with Franklin Judson's cinematography class. However, the Film Department was not created until 1973, and between the late 1930s - early 1970s there were a handful of classes offered periodically.

Content and structure elements
Scope and content
The Film Department records consist mainly of student work, including scripts and pre-production research. The Administrative Files series contains curriculum, syllabi, and printed materials announcing department events. The Public Service Announcements series contains proposals, storyboards and pre-production notes for possible PSAs. The Scripts series contains scripts, storyboards and pre-production notes created by students. The Computer Files contain discs of alumni work and seminars created by the department and discs removed from student projects.
