Although special events have always been a part of Art Center, from graduations to visiting artist lectures, there was not a dedicated Special Events Director until the late 1980s. As of 1991, the position was under Department of Advancement. In February 2003, the Department of Marketing & Communications was established, and the Office of Special Events was moved into that division.

Scope and content
These Special Events files document the planning of various Art Center events from January 1995 thru December 1998. The Special Events Director helped organize everything from donor dinner parties to graduation ceremonies to international alumni receptions. Events in these files include alumni and student-related activities, luncheons, lectures, Art Center 100 activities, and San Marino League events. The files are arranged chronologically following the filing practices of Jeanette Stramat.
