The ArtCenter College of Design Archives is the repository for records and materials that document the history of ArtCenter and contributions of individuals and organizations associated with the College. The College Archives collects the following materials:

Official Records
The College Archives is the repository for all official ArtCenter records that have historical value. Among the different types of materials are:
• Accreditation reports
• Administrative departmental and committee records
• Architectural plans
• ArtCenter publications, brochures, and newsletters
• Board of Trustees records
• Course syllabi
• Faculty work and papers
• Graduate theses
• Photographs of events, campuses, and people
• Photograph and video documentation of classes and student work, including sponsored projects
• Video and film of guest lectures, student work, events, interviews
• Websites created by ArtCenter

Outside Acquisitions
In addition to official College records, the College Archives also collects (through donation, transfer, or purchase) materials related to the history of ArtCenter. This area can include (but not limited to): examples of student work, faculty or staff papers, and photographs and film/video of ArtCenter.

To make the best use of our resources and storage space, the Archives can only take in items that fit into our collection policy. The Archives will collect such records provided the material:

• Pertains to the history of the College
• Supports the curriculum
• Can be properly stored, processed, and made available for research

Materials Not Collected
The College Archives does not collect professional alumni work, art and design collections with no relation to ArtCenter, and three-dimensional objects.

All donation offers should be directed to the Archives. Please do not send any materials to the Archives without consulting with the Archives staff.

Archives and Special Collections is currently closed due to COVID-19.
We are available for virtual reference through email.

Conditions d'accès et d'utilisation

Copyright is held by Art Center College of Design, unless otherwise noted. In the case of student works, the intellectual property of the works is owned by the student creators. Digital materials and catalog records are made available for educational and research purposes only and cannot be reproduced, distributed, or published without written permission from Art Center College of Design.

Copyright for a Graduate Thesis is held by the student author. Theses are made available by permission of the author for scholarly use only.

Not all of the collections in the Archives are represented in the database. Please contact us if you have any questions about our holdings.

Most of the collections are available to research in person at the Archives. If you wish to make an appointment to view the collections, email the Archives with a request, including the collection or items you wish to view.

Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm.
