        History

        John Dee Coleman (INDU 1936) was born on November 3, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from the Art Center School in 1936, he worked for several aviation companies and the General Motors Styling Section. He returned to Art Center in 1947 to join the faculty. Not only did he teach Industrial Design for over 20 years, he was also instrumental in establishing Art Center’s collaborative relationship with the automotive industry with fellow former GM employees and Art Center faculty George Jergenson and Strother MacMinn. He died on November 27, 1970 in Los Angeles.
