Emerson Terry (ILLU 1953) submitted this 25-page memoir titled "My Journey to Art Center and Beyond..." to Alumni Relations in 2012. This cheerfully anecdotal essay begins with his childhood in Columbus, Ohio and continues to his Naval service in World War II to his move to California where he got a job as a sign painter. He enrolled at the Art Center School in 1949 on the G.I. Bill. He lists some of his teachers and includes eight examples of his student work. He also covers his career as an illustrator with examples of his professional work (including book covers and movie posters). The essay ends with his retirement, community service, and the accomplishments of his children. His memoir is illustrated throughout with photos, some of which whimsically have a young Emerson photoshopped into images of 1952 Art Center.
