Biographical history

Jim Bertoglio (PHOT) was born in Garden City, Kansas on January 14, 1925. He enrolled in the Photography Department of the Art Center School in 1941 at 16 years old. His instructor Ansel Adams inspired his life-long interest in black & white photography. In 1943, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he served as a photographer with the 94th Fighter Squadron. After the War, Jim attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and then returned home to Kansas to join his family's General Motors dealership. He died in Pratt, Kansas on October 26, 2012.

Scope and content

A 26-page book of black and white photographs titled "Parachutes" taken by Jim Bertoglio while a student at the Art Center School. The book was most likely created as a promotional tool to advertise Cole of California's participation in the War effort. It includes images of company employees sewing parachute components and assembling the packs. The book is spiral bound with a clear acetate cover.
