Biographical history

Courses specifically listed as foundation first appear in the 1967 catalog, however the Foundation Studies department was officially established in May 1986. In 2008 the department was reinstated (according to an email from the Acting Chief Academic Officer, Nik Hafermaas, we are unable to find evidence that it ceased to exist) and renamed Integrated Studies. This newly named department manages all current Foundation Studies classes and faculty, as well as take on responsibilities for certain Digital Media classes and workshops. "As Foundation Studies has done in the past, she [Wendy Adest] will also assist with cross-disciplinary electives and TDS courses. Additional programming, including Faculty Development" [from email announcement]

Chairs:
Midge Quenell, 1986-1992
Ramone Munoz, 1993-2002
Fred Fehlau, 2003-circa 2007
Wendy Adest, 2008-

Scope and content

The Integrated Studies Department records consist of four folders and digital files which are mostly emails related to the Digtal Media Workshops offered by the department.

An older document from 1996, when the department was called Foundation Studies, is from the Chair, Ramone Munoz, regarding the death of faculty member Burne Hogarth. Related is a portfolio of 24 laminated color photocopies of sketches made by Burne Hogarth while teaching Analytical Figure Drawing.
