Biographical history
Gordon E. Smith (PHOT 1950) was born in White Plains, New York on March 21, 1928. He attended the Art Center School on the GI Bill after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Returning to New York, he worked for a studio until he started on his own in 1961. He specialized in commercial food photography which he shot for almost all of the "Seven Sisters" (Redbook, Woman's Day, etc.) as well as cookbooks. He died on September 7, 2021 in Connecticut.

The Gordon E. Smith papers are mainly images taken by Smith while he was a student and as a professional food photographer. Also included is a packet from the Art Center School consisting of a cover letter, his grade transcript, and a Certificate of Completion.
